To perform quality research collaborations are essential, and we have been fortunate to work with outstanding clinicians and researchers throughout the world. We're currently doing research in a variety of populations, and this page outlines some of the research we have published so far.

STROKE AND TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY
Our work in the area of acquired brain injury has focused on creating measurement tools for assessing physical function, and examining the outcomes of interventions such as balance training and gait training. These studies have been performed predominantly with clinician researchers such as Associate Professor Gavin Williams from the Epworth Hospital and Dr Dawn Tan from Singapore General Hospital.

PARKINSON'S DISEASE
This study was performed by Dr Jeff Holmes, and was the first to validate the use of the Nintendo Wii Balance Board for assessing centre of pressure in a clinical population.
LUNG CANCER AND COPD
We have been very fortunate to perform cardiorespiratory disease and lung cancer research with Professor Linda Denehy from the University of Melbourne. This work has examined physical activity levels using both accelerometers and global positioning systems (GPS), and also examined balance using the Nintendo Wii Balance Board.

PAEDIATRICS
I've been very fortunate to work with the outstanding researchers at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute and Cincinnati Children's Hospital, particularly Dr. Alicia Spittle and Dr Lucy Lorifice from MCRI and Tara Rhine MD from CCH. These studies examined postural control and physical function in children who were born very pre-term in one study, and children who had suffered a concussion requiring hospitalisation in the others.

OSTEOPOROSIS
VALIDATION IN HEALTHY PEOPLE
These studies are typically the first ones we perform with a new device to ensure that it is valid before we test it on a larger scale. This consists of comparing the data from the devices to a criterion reference (or gold standard if one exists). We have examined a variety of low-cost and widely available devices for a range of assessments, including the Nintendo Wii Balance Board and Wiimotes, both versions of the Microsoft Kinect and Smart phones.
