SeeSway: original methods & resources

Read the original SeeSway documentation and publication. The new browser analysis workspace is available separately.

Legacy referenceOriginally published: Not establishedEditorial review: 20 Sep 2026Maintainer: RehabTools · Ross Allan Clark & collaborators

Editorial review covers presentation and historical context, not full scientific validation or current hardware compatibility.

The old hosted analysis servers are offline. Use the current SeeSway browser workspace for new analyses; the workflow below is retained as historical documentation.

At a glance

  1. Start with the original publication and data-format guidance.
  2. Read how the historical software defines and calculates each outcome.
  3. Use the separate browser workspace to try the new Python preview, whose scope differs from the original software.

Description of the outcome measures and how they are calculated

NOTE FOR EUROPEAN USERS:
.csv files as currently used by this program are saved in a different format for European users that will not work with this site. I will have this fixed by end of 2019, however to analyse data now please try the solutions at this link. This will save the file with commas as spacers and dots as the decimal.

Step 1. CLICK THIS to access the file upload page
This is very simple. Just click the link, click "Choose Files" then select the files you want to upload. You can select multiple files at once. Type in your first and last name along with a valid email address then click "Upload". This imports the files to the cloud sorted by your name. If you have any identifying data in your file names you could consider using the program I have created at this link to recode your file names to protect anonymity.
Your files will remain available for 24hrs after upload.

Step 2. Click the button below to update data

Step 3. Select and analyse your data

If the analysis program below is not loading or is very slow, try accessing another server by clicking the buttons below. If it still is not working refer to the NOTES page for troubleshooting and to contact us.

PLEASE CLOSE ALL ANALYSIS PAGES WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED - INCLUDING THIS ONE
* To perform no additional filtering of the data set the filter type to "simple moving average" and set the "average length" to 1.
If you want to use the output of the program for further statistical analysis you can paste the results into the template file below:
balance_template_seesway.xls
File Size: 32 kb
File Type: xls
Download balance template seesway.xls

You can copy the numbers in the "Results String" box and paste them into a text editor (like notepad). This is in a space delimited format with the first column being the file, second being path length etc. You can simply copy and paste to new rows, then when you have processed all of your files save the document as a .txt file. Then open a spreadsheet program (eg. Excel), import the file and choose delimited format. This will then provide the results in a format that can be easily analysed statistically.
